Integrating into a traditional neighborhood

Type: Residential, Architecture

Use: Terraced house

Site: El Palo, Málaga

This house is located in the El Palo neighborhood, within a traditional residential area of Málaga. The project was conceived as a typological study of housing on a very small plot of 35m2.

From this starting point, two typologies were proposed, both making the staircase the organizing element of the space, also serving as a skylight and a natural ventilation chimney.

In type A, the staircase is placed at the back of the living room and the plot. The kitchen, parallel to the living room, and the bedrooms, on the first floor, open directly onto the street.

In type B, the staircase separates the living room, which occupies the entire ground floor facade, from the kitchen, which is located at the back of the plot.

In both cases, the staircase is designed within the living room and open to it, giving this space a greater sense of spaciousness.

Ultimately, type B was chosen, along with the use of yellow on the ground floor exterior, as requested by the client, to integrate with the diverse colors of the neighborhood.
